Our Pick of the Week: War Heroes #1 ![]() Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle Reviews Astonishing X-Men #25 The start of the new arc in Astonishing plays a lot of setup. Having not read any of the previous issues of Astonishing, but reading the other X-Men titles I wasn’t sure what to expect. It would seem I didn’t need to read any of the previous issues to understand this one. There is a mutant I am not familiar with, but for the most part the roster is standard. I enjoyed the art a lot and liked the premise, but this issue was a little slow with a ramp up and had a lot of banter, both good and bad. ![]() Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle Weekly Rankings For 07/02/08 Here are this week’s comics ranked prior to reading them, based upon past performance and advance information released on each issue: 4. Astonishing X-Men #25 Here are the rankings after the first read through with a mini-review: ![]() Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle Reviews X-Men Legacy #213 Ah, the plot thickens! This issue gives out some more of how Xavier and company were on the hit list. The issue ties Sinister to everyone, basically. The comic continues to give quality flashbacks. This comic doesn’t really answer the question about how Gambit is involved in all of this, but this issue is damn good. Outstanding artwork gains it a perfect score. ![]() Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle Reviews Uncanny X-Men #499 Let’s set the expectation right here: this arc isn’t meant to rock the X universe. However, it does establish a touch of a new status quo. So in that regard, this issue and arc isn’t garbage. However, it is an easy little arc to bridge the gap to issue #500. Some find this offensive, but I don’t. However, this issue isn’t getting any free passes just because it is meant to be a little light in preparation for the big #500 celebration.
