Here are this week’s comics ranked prior to reading them:

5. Uncanny X-Men #505
4. X-Files #2

I picked up Detective from last week and I would place this probably #3 after reading all the titles that came out this week.

Here are the rankings after the first read through with a mini-review:

Supergirl #36
DC Comics
Gates, Igle & Champagne

Part Eight in the New Krypton arc sees one of the main Kryptonians “die” which only fuels the divide among the Kryptonians. The comic’s real story here is outlining the failures of Superman and Supergirl to assimilate the people of Kandor to Earth. The comic sets up an ugly ending that probably means more Zod.

Action Comics #872
DC Comics
Johns & Woods

New Krypton rolls on and the cast grows in this issue, as does the action. This issue advances some of the ideas the villains have in mind for Superman and his fellow Kryptonians. We also see that Supergirl’s mother isn’t totally on the up and up either. This issue has plenty of action and really puts Superman in an impossible spot. He’s wanted by an awful lot of people and he doesn’t seem to have a lot of cohorts to help out. In fact, the cliffhanger has some of his friends getting ready to hunt down the Kryptonians.

She feels unnecessary and makes it that much more difficult to match up worthy villains with Superman. However, I found the content of the issue to be executed very well and if you are into the character I can’t imagine you not liking this issue.

Action Comics #870

Well, this is the issue where a major character bites the big one. The arc had been pretty good but it will be lost in the gimmicky death that was leaked to the press before the issue hit the stands. I actually didn’t find the death scene to even be that good. Sorry to say it but I actually found it to be a little light on the drama. Anyway, Superman finds a way to beat Brainiac and in the process loses someone he loves and gains a whole new Krypton city.
