The comic has some comedy, some drama, one huge twist and a ton of action. The artwork jams a ton into each panel. Most of the major Marvel characters get decent page space and have lines worthy of their voices. This was a ton of fun to read. After a great recap page we launch right into the action. A major splash page to start the battle takes a few minutes to soak it all in. Then we get lots of great moments right off the bat from many of the key players. Iron Man and Captain America fighting side by side, Fury and Osborn fighting next to each other guns a blazing and lots and lots of Skrulls. Some of the fun battles have Reed fighting a ton of Sues. We also get some good one on one between the Queen and Wolverine. Spider-Man, Cage and even some Hawkeye action help round out a great cast with some interesting moments. Thor kind of gets a low amount of involvement which is a bummer. We also get some Kree action to create more chaos. The issue ends with the return of one hero, but also a big twist that may turn the tide against Earth. It’s a good cliffhanger. The comic really is a refreshing read. It really doesn’t require a ton of knowledge coming in and it doesn’t require wikipedia to read it and enjoy it. It’s a huge battle and it’s delivered excellently visually with fitting dialogue at a fast pace. The comic does its best to make sure your favorite Marvel character is represented. It’s an impossible task, but this comic tries to give you everyone you might be looking for visually, if not verbally as well. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that someone who hasn’t even followed this series could still pick this up and enjoy it. It’s a great reminder about how much fun this hobby can be. This is an action story that has various beings doing extraordinary things with interesting characters that make you want to come back for more. This story isn’t life changing or status quo changing but it is fun. 5 out of 5 geek goggles Tag cloudaction comics avengers batman black canary blog from another world cable captain america checker bpg comiclist critiques dark horse dc comics dynamite entertainment fantagraphics final crisis flash flash gordon frank frazetta geek goggle reviews geek goggle weekly rankings gi joe green arrow green lantern green lantern corps hulk idw publishing image comics indiana jones iron man kick ass lone ranger magneto marvel comics mice templar midwest book review secret invasion spider-man star wars star wars supergirl superman suspended animation transformers twomorrows variant edition walking dead wildstorm wolverine world of warcraft x-files x-men |
