This Week's Suspended Animation
Hal Foster Prince Of Illustrators, published by Vanguard Productions, $24.95
I was in my late twenties before I took a good look at Hal Foster's Prince Valiant, despite being a fan of comic books and strips since childhood. Maybe it came with the passage of time, and further education in the art form of comics, but a deep appreciation for his work eventually materialized. And then solidified. Then, marked me for life. That's why I'm so thankful for Brian M. Kane, and his book Hal Foster: Prince of Illustrators, Father of the Adventure Strip.

X-Men: Divided We Stand #1 of 2
Marvel Comics
Carey, Peterson, Ponsor, Kyle, Yost, Takeda, Young, Beaulieu, Yost, LaFuente, Fraction & McKelvie
A collection of five short stories about random X-Men who you may or may not have been wondering about since Cyclops disbanded the X-Men after the Messiah Complex. Each story has a different creative team and presents a very different look at life after the war. None of the stories is particularly happy, but depending on your involvement with the character, none are too depressing either. The issue is very good overall.

Superman #675
DC Comics
Busiek, Guedes, Correa & Magalhaes
Superman battles, not one, not two, but five villains in this issue. He eventually teams with one to take out the others. This issue weaves together the interesting characteristics of Superman with some good, old fashioned throwdowns. However, the real element of this story worth noting is it is the end of the line for the writer, Kurt Busiek, on Superman.

Lone Ranger #11
Dynamite Comics
Matthews, Cariello, Pope & Cassaday
This issue of the Lone Ranger is almost a solo story about Tonto. Not quite, but almost. The ranger barely shows up in it and the story that is before us is told with symbolism and implied themes. It’s a different kind of issue than what this series has given us. It isn’t bad at all, but it also isn’t the same level of story telling we’ve seen. This issue falls just short of the bar already set very high by the previous installments.
VA SAYS: Could it be? Another full length episode? We’ve got another combo episode…it’s a rundown of the comics you’ll find in shops, first looks at a few cool books and more lengthy reviews that you viewers keep clamoring for!
Luis and Mike take First Looks at X-Factor #30, X-Men Divided We Stand #1, Captain America #37 and Incredible Hercules #116. Reviews include: Titans #1, Kick Ass #2, Dead of Night #3 and The Goon #23. Plus Nick and Mike remind everyone that this weekend is the New York Comic Con.
