Comic books historically come out on a monthly basis. Every 4 to 5 weeks an issue for a certain series is published and stacked on the racks of your local shop. Some of course are published bi-weekly and others may take months be released if they’re an indie comic without a scheduled deadline. Now with the advent of digital media, people are able to enjoy the comfort of purchasing and reading their comic books without leaving their home. Marvel has taken advantage of this by creating comics exclusively for the computer screen called, Marvel Infinite Comics. Some of the more successful ones eventually get released in print form and one of which was a crossover between two of the companies premiere street level heroes, Daredevil and the Punisher.

Marvel continues to capitalize off of the success of the successful debut of the Punisher in Netflix's Daredevil season 2 with a crossover mini-series. The two New York based characters have had a rivalry for decades and has been one of the more alluring ones in comics. The two have always been more street level heroes, dealing with inner-city and domestic problems, not involving themselves in the big events. While that may turn off some readers, what's drawing about their conflict is their philosophical differences that happened to be highlighted in the Netflix series. Criminals commit crimes, Daredevil hits them and they get back up, the Punisher hits them and they stay down. It's a line that all superheroes have to face at some point and this relationship has exploited that to its fullest.

Edmondson & Gerads

This issue of the Punisher introduces the larger plot and it turns out to have multiple threads to it. The comic has plenty of action and some nice character moments, but the best part of the book is in the layered plot that is rolled out. The book is a visual treat on the eyes as it has equal parts of beauty and grit. I am totally onboard with where this series is going. I definitely recommend checking this out.

The re-launch of Punisher provides an update of the character where Frank Castle has taken up residence in Los Angeles. The first issue sets up the plot nicely enough and provides some nice moments but the premise isn't entirely convincing. The issue is worth checking out but I'm not sure there is enough in here to give the seasoned reader something new in the world of The Punisher.

Sometimes a random mini-series or one-shot ends up being an impressive hidden gem. This two-issue mini-series came very close to being a classic but narrowly misses that category. This issue primarily is testimony about Frank Castle and whether or not he's insane. While this is occurring, the reader is anxiously awaiting the reveal of the reason that Frank surrendered in the first place. The build up is good and the reveal is very good but the race to conclude the comic book leaves something to be desired. This was a near miss in greatness.

Maberry, Campbell & Loughridge

Wolverine is still trying to help save the world as more and more heroes fall to the plague. This is the big issue where everything falls apart for the heroes. I won't spoil which heroes turn or what happens to them but there is a lot of blood in this issue as you probably figured would eventually happen. Maberry continues to show a great command of Wolverine and his voice during a crisis like this. Overall, this continues to be a fun and entertaining read living up to the level of its predecessor.

PunisherMax moves into the second part of the arc titled, "Frank". It's no secret that this is one of best books I read each month and this issue is simply no different. However, this issue manages to bring a couple of new things to the table from the previous dozen PunisherMax books which makes this issue stand out a bit more than usual. Jason Aaron continues to break his way into new ground for a character that seemed tapped when Garth Ennis ended his run a few years ago. This is just a great read all around.
