Salvatore Volume 2: An Eventful Crossing continues the masterfully translated, English-language adaptation of a French comic saga that uses anthropomorphic characters and muted color artwork to spin the saga of a canine mechanic in search of his beloved companion. His chosen vehicle is a bizarre device, piloted with the aid of a tiny human who may as well be his pet. But one distraction after another besets him on his journey, not the least being a cute hitchhiker! Meanwhile, Madame Amadine continues the search for her lost piglet Frank, encountering an arrogant detective, while the rest of her offspring seek to make a not-so-honest living through a phony "organic" cafe and market. The absurdities mount in this wry, whimsical tale, distinctly reminiscent of the classic novella "The Wind in the Willows". Highly recommended. (Volume 2 of the English translation actually collects volumes 3 and 4 of the original French version).

Boneyard Volume Seven continues the black-and-white fantasy-horror- humor comic story following the (mostly) ordinary mortal Michael Paris and the lusciously beautiful vampire Abbey. The two of them are finally coming close to understanding and accepting their feelings for one another - but every time it seems as though they might be ready to progress their relationship, something seems to interrupt them. This time it's the reappearance of Lita, Michael's not-so-imaginary childhood faerie friend. Desperate to escape her betrothal to the prince of the dark faeries, Lita seeks Michael's help - drawing him into a fantastic, faraway world where humans are second-class citizens and a mysterious plague is brutally ravaging the fae folk. Michael's monstrous menagerie of friends want to help him before he literally loses his head - if they can only figure out which alternate dimension is the right one to find him! Written with charm and wit, as well as action and passion, Boneyard Volume Seven will not disappoint fans of the series yet is also a sufficiently accessible and self-contained story as to be a serviceable jumping-on point for new readers. Highly recommended.
