X-Men Magneto Testament #5 of 5
Marvel Comics
Pak, Di Giandomenico & Hollingsworth
The mini series ends in this issue with the escape of Max from Auschwitz. It might be the most historically imbedded issue in the series. The interesting thing about this issue (and the character) is that Max never shows his mutant ability. This series has been about the holocaust and has had nothing to do with the X-Men or super heroes in general. It was a refreshing change of pace and a very good read.

X-Men Magneto Testament #3 (of 5)
Marvel Knights (Marvel Comics)
Pak, Di Giandomenico & Hollingsworth
This comic centers squarely on the Holocaust. It’s graphic but not too vulgar. It paints as realistic of a picture as it can when dealing with a horrific historic event in a comic book. To be fair, this comic has little to do with the X-Men, heroes, capes, villains and super powers. It takes a major player and drops him, as a child, in the worst documented atrocities seen made against mankind in the twentieth century. This issue was disturbing but very good.

X-Men Magneto Testament #2 of 5
Marvel Comics
Pak, Di Giandomenico & Hollingsworth
This is a story that is not a superhero tale. It’s not an origins story. It’s not anything like any other X-Men story I’ve ever read. It’s a historical account of how Nazi Germany turned its own citizens into the enemy. It took everything they had, beating them along the way, before running them out of their homes and eventually taking their lives. It follows one family in particular. A member of that family happens to become Magneto. Without that last sentence, this comic has nothing to do with the X-Men. It’s an excellent story documenting a horrifying and dark spot on mankind’s history. It’s a powerful story.

X-Men Legacy #209
Marvel Comics
Carey, Eaton & Tan
Magneto returns and so does Xavier. This issue lacks action, but it gives some excellent insight into how both of them view the other and their ideals. It’s nice to see Magneto and Xavier in the same comic together. I just wonder where all of this is really going. Hopefully, the characters will be relevant again in the overall X scheme.
