Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle Reviews
Lone Ranger & Tonto #2
Dynamite Comics
Matthews, Turnitz, Mavlian & Fajardo Jr.
Whether you want to call this is an annual or a one shot it manages to capture the spirit of what this series has been about. There is some detective work to be done when a crime is discovered. The Ranger and Tonto have their own small strides in growth, both in their own character development as well as their interaction with one another. The artwork is departure from the style we normally find in this series, but it suits this story very well.

Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle Reviews
Lone Ranger #16
Dynamite Comics
Matthews, Cariello & Cassaday
This issue is a case study of the main villain for the Lone Ranger, Butch Cavendish. It seems like it’s a long time coming, but the issue tries to add in an origin that doesn’t quite fit with the villain we’ve seen in the opening arcs. It’s a good story, but for those following the series all along may find some of these bumps in this issue’s profile of Cavendish to be bothersome. On the other hand, newer readers won’t have a clue what this issue is trying to do as the Lone Ranger appears on only one page and the story never provides Cavendish’s name or his connection to the Ranger.

Lone Ranger #15
Dynamite Comics
Matthews, Cariello & Cassaday
The Scorched Earth arc wraps with a really strong showing. The comic has good detective work, good drama, great artwork and a couple of character moments to move things along. The arc was so-so, but the wrap up really ramped things up. This is a good comic.

Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle Reviews
Lone Ranger #14
Dynamite Comics
Matthews, Cariello & Cassaday
The latest installment continues with the Scorched Earth arc as the Ranger begins to unravel the mystery. This is a good thing because the reader was largely in the dark until this issue as to what the mystery actually was. We get some more interaction that satisfies and builds character, but we also get some more symbolic and near “moments” between Tonto and the Ranger. It’s a good issue but it isn’t great. The artwork is good but isn’t at the “wow” level we’ve seen in the previous issues.
