I don’t usually take the step of not purchasing it when it does come out and as a result I am usually happy with the outcome to the point of forgiveness for the tardiness. I have no idea why it’s taken months for this second issue to come out as opposed to its original shipping date in June, but I loved the issue nonetheless. It’s got action, information, some surprises, great artwork and a cliffhanger. All while staying true to the first couple of movies. It’s a fantastic comic book. The comic picks up with Indy and Marcus getting shot at in Tibet. Indy makes a grand entrance and puts an end to the shooting. Quickly they learn that the man they are looking for, Beresford-Hope, is dead and that his son, Alex, is alive and protecting the third of the key that has yet to fall into enemy’s hands. Just as we learn some about Beresford-Hope and the artifact in comes another problem: natives. Indy and company run and Indy calls out the familiar name of Jock. Yes, Jock makes an appearance in this comic in the same way he did in the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark. It’s excellent use of the legacy of the characters of Indiana Jones. This whole sequence also provides a couple of chuckles as they make their escape. After figuring out where the key is telling them to head, they are off to Russia. However, along the way they hit a bump in the road and Indiana is surprised by the Nazis and left in the middle of the Pacific. He’s not alone though, he gets a beautiful girl to keep him company, that and some sharks. A great issue. The issue provides so many great character moments. None was more memorable than a discussion that Indy and Marcus have about the task at hand. Marcus warns Indy that this isn’t a mission of “Fortune and Glory” which, helps to tie in the movies as well as hit home the idea that Indy isn’t just chasing some artifact. He may have to do the unthinkable to help keep evil from gaining the power. Can Indy go against all his instincts and destroy this thing? I guess we’ll find out. The artwork is great. Sure, a lot of the panels provide portraits of the characters that are set with no backgrounds, but the characters resemble the actors that portray them perfectly. The action looks great, just as you would want your Indiana Jones comic to have. Another item I liked with this comic was that it had a sense of humor. This comic doesn’t forget that Indiana Jones and his adventures usually contain some light moments. This comic has a solid plot that is the basis for a great character study, all while framed in some special artwork. This story isn’t to be missed by a fan of the genre. I can only hope the next issue comes out sometime close to its scheduled date. 5 out of 5 geek goggles Tag cloudaction comics avengers batman black canary blog from another world cable captain america checker bpg comiclist critiques dark horse dc comics dynamite entertainment fantagraphics final crisis flash flash gordon frank frazetta geek goggle reviews geek goggle weekly rankings gi joe green arrow green lantern green lantern corps hulk idw publishing image comics indiana jones iron man kick ass lone ranger magneto marvel comics mice templar midwest book review secret invasion spider-man star wars star wars supergirl superman suspended animation transformers twomorrows variant edition walking dead wildstorm wolverine world of warcraft x-files x-men |
