The Frank Frazetta line of comics rolls along with perhaps its boldest incarnation to date. This is a comic that takes a president and turns him into a warrior fighting against the supernatural. You read that right. Theodore Roosevelt was known as a rough rider and as president, but in this story he is also a Ghostbuster. Or maybe he’s Indiana Jones. He’s something, but whatever he is, he kicks ass.

I am a sucker for one shots and for sword and sorcery comics. Add in that I enjoyed the Death Dealer very much and I was a shoe-in to like this issue. Sure, there isn’t going to be a ton to get vested in because it’s a one and done comic, but I liked it anyway. To be fair, the story is a little light, but the art is why you buy a comic like this in the first place and the art rocks.

Mice Templar #5

This comic pretty much only comes out every other month. Each time it shows up on the schedule I think to myself that I shouldn’t pick it up. I remembered liking the previous issues, but too much time passed and I’m just not enthusiastic about the newest issue. Each time, I grapple with these thoughts, and then I purchase the comic and love it. This issue I may feel the strongest yet about my level of enjoyment.

I count myself a fan of this series. Not because I love mice and rats, but because the universe created here has imagination and is rooted in fantasy, just as Star Wars or Lord of the Rings is. I found this particular issue to be good but not quite great. I like the overall direction this story takes but I do have a couple of nagging things I wasn’t crazy about with this issue.

REVIEW: Frank Frazetta’s Dark Kingdom

The Frazetta line delivers an excellent one shot about a man with revenge in his heart and some rage on his side. This comic is a sword and sorcery comic in the tradition of Conan, Dungeons and Dragons and Lord of the Rings. It has strange creatures, peasants, gigantic monsters and a badass hero. While the highlight of the Death Dealer series was the artwork, this series has a strong mix of a story and the art to match it. For a one shot to pull this off is impressive. Especially with brand new characters.
