"No Way Out" continues as the community crumbles and the people are tested to their limits of survival over loyalty. This issue manages to bring a high level of mystery as various characters become cut off from one another leading the characters (and the reader) to be unsure about who has survived and who has not. Overall this is another excellent read as Kirkman proves again that when its time for chaos he knows how to push the reader's buttons. I can't wait to see how he ends this arc.

Part Two of the "Flambé" arc delivers an excellent read because of the unexpected focus. Layman dives immediately into exploring the character, Olive, Tony Chu's daughter. This allows a couple of things that make for a fun read, one of which is how much she looks up to Tony's partner, Colby. Overall the issue just adds to the bizarre tapestry that Chew has been building since the beginning. You don't get answers but you get a lot more oddities that make you want to read more. Great writing and amazing art tend to do that to you in comic books.

Sooner or later death comes to the living characters in this comic book and this issue is no different from any of the others. Kirkman wastes no time in making sure the "No Way Out" arc is a fast paced and dangerous story for the group of survivors trapped in their gated community by a herd of zombies waiting outside the fence. The issue continues the trend of relationship growth as well as mixing in some subplots but for the most part this issue is all about the impending danger. It's an excellent read as usual.

A journalist heads into a small town looking to find out some answers to the bizarre mystery that's clouded the town for some time now: none of the town's residents seem to have a memory. The first issue of Memoir not only sets up the series' mystery well but it gives a good bit of suspense and a hook at the end to make sure you come back for more. It's a good first issue to the mini series with some lovely black and white art to back up the solid story.

The late running, over-sized, highly anticipated anniversary issue of Spawn drops this past week with a very mixed bag for this one time reader and fan of Spawn. Being the case that for some unknown reason many readers will look to pick up (or jump back on) to a series when it hits an anniversary issue it's generally a good idea to give the reader a reason to come back for the anniversary issue plus one. However, upon reading this issue I am painfully reminded why I stopped reading Spawn around issue thirty some fifteen years ago.

The latest Nick Spencer, creator owned project, begins with a bang in this first issue. As you might expect, if you have read a Nick Spencer comic book, that it contains some terrific dialogue, a great opening to grab on to, a good gimmick or mystery to move the issue along and a terrific cliffhanger. All of this adds up to an excellent opening to this series.

The much hyped arc entitled 'No Way Out' begins this issue with an interesting focus for the story. The issue sets up the overall problem of being surrounded by the zombies well enough but it mainly deals with subplots making the issue unique compared to other big arc openers in this series. It's another solid issue in a series that never lets up and never ceases to surprise the reader.

One of most intriguing comic ideas to come along since Nick Spencer's Existence 2.0 hits this week with an interesting opening issue. 'Who Is Jake Ellis?' promised a good gimmick and this issue delivers that throughout the issue. While we may not know the details of the gimmick, it is definitely showcased. However, the issue didn't grab me fully because of the story around the gimmick. This was a decent first issue to the mini series but I will be looking for more in the way of story for the next one.
