I haven't a clue what this comic book is about. What I can tell you is that the comic book has some unbelievable artwork that is clearly the showcase for the book. Entire pages are wordless and in some cases entire sequences of action flow throughout the book without so much as a caption. The downside is that I have no sense of what's going on. The artwork is worth the price of admission and is clearly meant to draw the reader in but the plot needs to get some traction or the characters need to endear themselves to the reader if this book is to have any long-term readership.

Walking Dead is a fast-paced comic book that advances a number of plots forward. In some cases the role reversal continues as Rick is appearing more like a dictator and Negan more of the sympathetic victim of Rick's will. The comic is a good read but stops short of showcasing the new world or growing the character's personalities. You can't go wrong picking this book up though.

Spread is a comic book that hits you in the gut immediately and leaves you stunned, but wanting more. This first issue establishes the primary protagonist and his purpose while entertaining along the way with edge-of-your-seat action and some horrific images worthy of some of the most frightening horror flicks that I can remember. I urge those not of the faint hearted to pick this comic book up. It is a smash hit in the waiting and this is the ground floor. It will surely be an impossible issue to track down in short order.

Aaron & Latour

This is quickly becoming the breakout hit of 2014. Aaron and Latour continue their deep look at the hardened characters in the deep southern town in the heart of Alabama in another compelling issue. This particular issue has the protagonist, Earl Tubb, push all his chips into the center of the table as he definitely makes up his mind about what he plans to do. Here's a hint: he isn't running. This is a fantastic read.

Well, this comic is a kick in the teeth. This is the Exorcist on steroids in what reads like a creepy, scary and thrilling comic book that makes the Walking Dead look comical. Not to mention that you get forty four pages for three bucks which makes this a no-brainer as to whether or not to pick it up. The comic reads like a one-shot, so at the very least you get a great and complete read just by picking up this issue. That makes sampling this issue up all the easier. I highly recommend checking this out.

Walking Dead provides a very comprehensive, but slow issue as the new world is further defined but not expanded. This issue definitely reads like a small slice of a trade paperback rather than a single comic book issue. Kirkman shifts from character defining stories to plot driven stories to, now, industrial defining stories. It's a good, but very forgettable issue.

Ellis & Howard

The latest creator owned book from Warren Ellis is a compelling look at a potential alien invasion and the effects it would have on the general population. Unlike previous books by Ellis that deals with some flavor of the end of humanity, such as Supergod, this one steers clear of overwhelming science-fiction terms and extreme images. Ellis allows the artwork to tell the story with limited narration and this is done with tremendous results. Whether or not you like science fiction books or Warren Ellis, I believe this is a comic book that appeals to a wide audience. I definitely recommend checking this out.

Chew and Revival have more in common than you might think. This comic one-shot brings the two worlds together with two, sixteen pages stories, one by each creative team in a $5 flip book that's an extremely fun read. If you are a fan of either book then this is a must have, but if you are curious about either book then I urge you to pick this up because it certainly feels like a great point to jump on to either book.
