Green Lantern Corps #31 REVIEW

Green Lantern Corps #31
DC Comics
Tomasi, Gleason & Buchman

The Guardians enact the third law to ban relationships among Lanterns, but it is a little too late when dealing with a pregnant Lantern that’s being hunted by a monster. This issue helps to build up the Sinestro Corps villain, Kryb, and puts the Corps in quite a bad spot. It’s a good issue with plenty of action and excellent artwork.

Green Lantern #35 REVIEW

Green Lantern #35
DC Comics
Johns, Reis & Albert

Secret Origin wraps up at long last and this issue doesn’t give a lot that feels new in its seventh installment. It’s a good story (as always) but it doesn’t really add a whole lot to the key characters. Sure, it adds some ancillary details needed for Blackest Night, but what else new was added to Hal, Sinestro and the Guardians? The artwork was excellent as always. I guess looking back I kind of wish this was a mini series so that this book could really build up for the coming war as Green Lantern Corps seems to be doing.

Green Lantern Corps #29
DC Comics
Tomasi, Gleason, Geraci & Buchman

Well, while Green Lantern proper looks to the past to set up the coming war, this title stays grounded in the present and is doing a bang up job with setting up many plot threads and new characters. This issue deals with the sapphires and gives out one ring while laying down the seeds for possibly another. It’s a great issue that makes excellent use of many characters.

Green Lantern Corps #28
DC Comics
Tomasi, Ross & Laguna

The mysterious deaths of the Green Lantern rookie’s family members are solved as the Lanterns utilize some tricks of their own to track down the killer. The comic gives some great character interaction as well as some systematic detective work. The artwork is awesome adding depth to the drama. The arc may have been small but this is a comic is a story worth picking up.

Green Lantern #34 REVIEW

Green Lantern #34

Part six of the retelling of Hal Jordan’s origin is probably my favorite to date. I have been looking for explanations in the oddities of his origin versus others and while I don’t get that this issue I do get what I have been looking for in terms of character development. I had wanted some new interaction for Jordan with some character and this issue gives an excellent take on how Sinestro feels about Jordan. It’s perfect. Sure, the issue ties up some ends with William Hand, Atrocitus and even with Carol to some extent, but the real strength in the story is how it handles Sinestro and Jordan.
