Batman #6Batman #6
DC Comics
Snyder, Capullo & Glapion

Batman is dragged to the depths and finds something inside that motivates him, in order to pull himself out again. Snyder managed to place Batman into, what appeared to be, in an inescapable situation and that makes this issue's events that much more of a payoff. This comic book relies heavily on the art to tell the story, which is definitely a winning combination as Greg Capullo continues to impress and delight. This is a fantastic read and I think any fan of the character would agree that this is without question something different from the regular Batman comic.

Planet Of The Apes #11Planet Of The Apes #11
Boom! Studios
Gregory & Magno

Planet of the Apes has been a book that has been pumping out issue after issue of political drama, snippets of war and character-driven conflicts. This issue everything comes together. I can't say that everything has been driving towards this particular story, but it sure seems like nothing is going to be the same after this issue. The book was very good until the last page when this issue was elevated to great. If you are fan of the franchise or any sort of war, science fiction or just drama comic then this is the book for you.

Star Wars Dawn Of The Jedi Force Storm #1Star Wars Dawn of the Jedi: Force Storm #1 of 5
Dark Horse Comics
Ostrander, Duursema & Parsons

The latest Star Wars takes place some 36,000 years before the original trilogy but this issue begins even before that as Ostrander takes great care in setting up the universe. This issue serves as an entry way into the very beginnings of the Jedi and the Sith. Ostrander and Duursema deliver the same high level of storytelling that the pair has delivered in countless Star Wars comics, including the far-reaching Star Wars Legacy series. This is the start of something special.

Moriarty #9Moriarty The Lazarus Tree #9
Image Comics
Corey, Diecidue, Freeze & Lanphear

Moriarty unravels another mystery in the big finale to the Lazarus Tree arc. As we've seen in the previous arc of Moriarty, the good professor has a lot of the same detective skills as his old arch nemesis, Sherlock Holmes. The book lets the reader in on a lot of the clues that Moriarty picked up on as the story unfolded, which makes it almost a must to go back and re-read the previous issues in the arc. This is a smart and well thought out comic book. I simply hope there are more in the pipeline.

Peter Panzerfaust #1Peter Panzerfaust #1
Image Comics
Wiebe & Jenkins

Peter Panzerfaust is a basically a book where Peter Pan exists and finds his Lost Boys during the early stages of World War II in France. However, the opening issue proves that there is more to the book than simply a new twist on Peter Pan. The opening issue rolls out the cast of characters, introduces the main stage and, more importantly, establishes Peter and his character traits. It's a good first issue but leaves me on an odd note with the cliffhanger that I didn't quite understand.

Severed #7Severed #7 of 7
Image Comics
Snyder, Tuft & Futaki

Snyder's horror series wraps up with an over-sized, but standard priced issue. The book puts in an x-factor when the major conflict occurs between Jack and the deranged, child-eating, killer. It's a very good ending to a very good series. I'm not sure this book packed nearly the same level of terror punch as previous issues but it did have a highly intense ending. I liked this series and I think any fan of the horror genre would enjoy it as well.

Conan The Barbarian #1Conan The Barbarian #1
Dark Horse Comics
Wood, Cloonan & Stewart

Dark Horse's latest relaunch of Conan is the reinterpretation of an old Robert Howard story called "Queen of the Black Coast." This particular launch carries a heavy-hitting creator crew lead by Brian Wood. I should confess that I only purchased the issue because Wood was the writer and because Dark Horse did a good job advertising that fact. What I found was not exactly the Conan I expected. This story takes place when Conan is just setting out. He's a young man that carries a lot of the flaws you'd expect to find in an inexperienced warrior. Overall, I liked the issue and will probably see the arc out and that means the opening did its job.

PunisherMAX #22PunisherMAX #22
MAX (Marvel Comics)
Aaron, Dillon & Hollingsworth

The finale of the Jason Aaron run on The Punisher is basically a tying up of loose ends as the climax occurred in the previous issue. Once again, Aaron shows how he has mastered putting together an interesting story that combines flashbacks and events in the current time period. Aaron packs a lot of information into this issue but still manages to move the book along at a nice pace. I have loved this run and this issue is no different. I believe if someone only picked up this issue, that they would be compelled to read the rest of the run. Definitely find space in your budget for this issue.
