Final Crisis Superman Beyond #1 of 2
DC Comics
Morrison, Mahnke, Alamy

I’m torn with this issue. On the one hand I knew what I was getting into with reading a Final Crisis tie-in, not having read Final Crisis Main. However, I hit the jackpot with Rogues’ Revenge and Requiem as I thought they were among the best comics of the year. Being the big Superman fan that I am and with the added gimmick of 3D how could I not push my luck a third time? I should have walked away from the craps table because this issue confused the hell out of me.

Final Crisis Rogues’ Revenge #2 of 3
DC Comics
Johns & Kolins

I am not reading the main Final Crisis series. I am reading this mini that may tie into the main one, but it simply makes no difference to me. I am finding this mini series to be among the best of the year. This second issue is outstanding on every single level. I can’t possible recommend this issue enough. In fact, you don’t even need to have read the first issue to like this story. That’s some high praise indeed.

DC Universe Last Will & Testament #1
DC Comics
Meltzer, Kubert, Kubert & Dell

This one shot does a quick lap around some of the main players in the DCU on the eve of a huge battle. It focuses on one low level hero, Geo-Force, and how he deals with his demons. The story is very interesting and has a great and unique ending, but I felt the story was told in such a way that I didn’t really care about this character, whom I know very little about. In some ways, I couldn’t even figure out how he was considered a hero. The artwork was very strong. Overall, this comic probably wasn’t worth the extra buck in price based on my level of enjoyment.

Final Crisis Rogues Revenge #1
DC Comics
Johns & Kolins

When I last left the Rogues they were in Flash and being scribed by Geoff Johns. I didn’t read Bart Allen’s Flash, I didn’t read any arc about the villains uniting, getting exiled and I am not reading Final Crisis. Despite all of this I loved this story. I thought it was one of the most surprising comics I’ve read some far this year.

Final Crisis #3
DC Comics
Morrison and Jones

I was critical of the first issue. I warmed up to the second issue. And the third turned up the heat to the boiling point. If you haven't been reading this series, you must now. You have no choice. This may or may not be the "final" crisis, but it's turning into one monumental tale.
