Suspended Animation Review
Essential Daredevil Volume 1, published by Marvel Comics, 544 pages, $16.99.
As a general rule, I find it bad form to have a revolving door of artists on an ongoing title featuring a continuing storyline. There are two exceptions to this, the first being an obvious one: anthologies. The other exception is not as obvious. It is any book in which the artists are some of the best the business has ever seen. A good example of this is Marvel's Essential Daredevil Volume 1.

Suspended Animation Review
Daredevil Volume 1, issues 353-365, published by Marvel Comics, 32 pages, prices vary.
Daredevil is one of Marvel Comics’ oldest and most endearing characters. Originally, he was the carefree swashbuckling hero. Along the way, however, he became the dark, gritty, Batman-like street-level crime fighter.

Reviews from The Blog From Another World
Daredevil: Born Again, the seminal, legendary story by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli, starts off in the thick of the action and doesn’t stop, ripping through Daredevil issues #227 through #233, taking the reader on a searing, gut-wrenching ride that’s provoking and thoroughly entertaining. It makes you question: what makes a hero? What makes a friend? A lover? An honorable man? A patriot? How low can a man (or woman) be taken (or take himself) and still survive? When there’s no hope, no fear, what’s left in the ashes?

Daredevil #111
Marvel Comics
Brubaker, Mann, Gaudiano & Hollingsworth
The start of a new arc gains a new reader: me. I read the freebie last month that explained the past four or five arcs of Daredevil and level set the field for new readers. I heard this issue was great so I gave it a shot and I liked it a lot. I didn’t think it was outstanding but I found it to be a really good start to a new arc.
