Planet Of The Apes #10
Boom! Studios
Gregory & Magno
Planet of the Apes is approaching epic atmosphere as this issue begins to tell some of the backstory of the main characters. The backstory is told from three separate perspectives in a very clever way. This issue doesn't move a lot forward with Sullivan but the human fugitives on the run are dealt with in a decisive fashion. Once again this is a comic book that uses tight storytelling along with grand visuals to make for a very entertaining read. I definitely recommend reading this issue.

Planet Of The Apes #9
Boom! Studios
Gregory & Magno
Perhaps the most consistent read month-to-month is the Planet of the Apes. This issue brings a lot of plot development in several directions as the war leans towards the humans again. The book has the uncanny ability to string together a good story while always leaving a good cliffhanger to bring you back for more the next month. This issue doesn't contain a ton of action but it does manage to show more of the brutality of the war. This is another good issue in this series.

Peanuts #0
Kaboom!
Charles Schulz
Boom's kids line is resurrecting a classic in the form of a comic version of Peanuts. As it plainly states on the cover: "$1 New Stories" which makes this issue nearly impossible to pass on. The issue comprises of several stories that vary in length but nearly all of them deal with strictly classic material, which is the way to go with an introductory issue. In short, this issue had me smiling the entire way through and I think that is exactly the this book should be aiming for.

Planet Of The Apes #7
Boom! Studios
Gregory & Magno
The war is heating up as the humans and apes continue to jockey for positioning. Voice Alaya is slowly manipulating the apes to serve her purposes while the humans, in various factions, are trying to figure out how to combat the apes on multiple fronts. What's clear with this issue is that the apes are organized and have the capacity to plan whereas the humans are divided and trying to battle in too large of a scope. It's an entertaining read as usual and I like the long-term prospects for this arc and series.

Key of Z #1 of 4
Boom! Studios
Sanchez, Echert, Kuder & Kirchoff
Key of Z is a mini-series about zombies. Okay, so that's being overly simplistic. It's a comic book, like Walking Dead, where the characters and the things they do to each other is the story while in the background a zombie apocalypse has fallen on humanity. For the most part this issue establishes the universe that the characters occupy and presents a couple of characters that will play into the story down the road. The book is a good start and manages to the do the most important thing, which is not be just another zombie book.

Planet Of The Apes #6
Boom! Studios
Gregory & Magno
Planet of the Apes continues to be a solid read month in and month out. As the war continues to escalate this issue takes a step back to explain some of what came before. At the same time the current timeline opens up the universe a bit as we begin to move to the outskirts of the ghetto city, Skintown. Overall, this issue inches the plot threads forward collectively but we really get some character growth on the human front. Overall, this is another solid effort in this franchise.

Planet Of The Apes #5
Boom! Studios
Gregory & Magno
The second arc begins, seamlessly, where the first arc of Planet of the Apes left off. This issue starts off with some acts of war peppered here and there but the issue ends in a shocking way as the apes show their way of dealing with the humans. It’s a very good issue and when you factor in that the first arc’s trade is available the same day as this issue and that this issue is only a buck, you’d be hard pressed to not give this issue a shot.

The Rinse #1
Boom! Comics
Phillips & Laming
Boom! releases a crime comic book this week called The Rinse that is both a meaty and entertaining read. The first issue introduces the lead character, Jeff Sinclair, and educates the readers about what a rinse actually is. The book then begins to layer a complicated plot to round out a hefty first issue. When you add in that this first issue is only a buck I would say this is a book you shouldn't pass up on even if you have a passing interest in the crime genre.
