Secret Invasion #2 of 8
Marvel Comics
Bendis, Yu, Morales & Martin

The second issue has the always fun, heroes versus heroes battle. The twist this time around is that it’s the present day heroes against the versions of themselves from the 1970s. You might think this sounds boring, but it really isn’t. The real twist here is finding out who is a Skrull.

Cable #3
Marvel Comics
Swierczynski & Olivetti

The third issue of this series brings a new character for Cable to interact with. It also brings more questions about “how” and “why”. One refreshing aspect of the story telling actually has me rooting for both Cable and Bishop. Still the series just feels like it isn’t fully clicking all together.

Action Comics Annual #11

DC Comics
Johns, Donner & Kubert

The long overdue finale of the Last Son arc finally hit stands. Sure, the easy thing to do would be to drone on and on about how late it was and how DC added insult to injury by upping the price by two thirds. I could easily talk about how all of this detracts from the story and maybe even the industry as a whole. Nope. I’m not going to do it. This issue was fantastic from start to finish.

Transformers Movie Sequel Reign of Starscream #1 of 4
IDW Comics
Mowry, Ryall, Milne and Perez

The opening issue that is labeled as the sequel to the movie isn’t really much of a sequel at all. In reality, this issue spends a number of pages setting up things just prior to the movie and then rehashes the movie’s events from Starscream’s point of view. The issue really only contains a couple of pages of how Starscream deals with the fallout of the movie. In short, not much happens in this issue. That isn’t to say this issue isn’t good. However, other items within help to bog it down. Overall I wasn’t thrilled with the issue.

Star Wars Legacy #23

Dark Horse Comics
Ostrander, Duursema & Parsons

This issue jumps right back into the life of Cade Skywalker after a bit of a rest. This issue isn’t the same type of story as the last arc with Cade. This one is more about Cade and his relationships. Cade isn’t the cold and lonely guy with a couple of pirate hands on his ship as he was before. Cade develops and advances as a character in this issue. We do have the seeds of an interesting plot as well. This is another top notch issue for this series.
