The Comixalaxy Reviews: DAREDEVIL PUNISHER #2

Daredevil/Punisher #2
Writer: Charles Soule
Layouts: Reilly Brown
Artist: Szymon Kudranski
Colors: Jim Charalampidis
Letters: Clayton Cowles
Publisher: Marvel
Release Date: 07/06/16

Marvel continues to capitalize off of the success of the successful debut of the Punisher in Netflix's Daredevil season 2 with a crossover mini-series. The two New York based characters have had a rivalry for decades and has been one of the more alluring ones in comics. The two have always been more street level heroes, dealing with inner-city and domestic problems, not involving themselves in the big events. While that may turn off some readers, what's drawing about their conflict is their philosophical differences that happened to be highlighted in the Netflix series. Criminals commit crimes, Daredevil hits them and they get back up, the Punisher hits them and they stay down. It's a line that all superheroes have to face at some point and this relationship has exploited that to its fullest.

Richard Gratton's Fantastic Reads 4 U

Uncanny Avengers #10
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Release Date: 06/22/16

Is anyone sick of Ultron? Not me. When Hank Pym returned, merged with Ultron, in Uncanny Avengers #9, I was skeptical. Was Hank really in control? And if so, where has he been? Why didn't he come back sooner? I wondered where writer, Gerry Duggan was going to take us, but not anymore. Uncanny Avengers #10 is a fantastic read; it starts with action, is filled with tension and literally ends with a bang.

Captain America: Sam Wilson #10
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Release Date: 06/22/16

When Sam Wilson took over as Captain America, I was not sold on the move. I agreed that something had to be done; Marvel couldn't have an elderly man running around in a costume trying to fight off much younger, more virile villains and expect fans to accept that as logical or realistic in any way. But a blended Captain America and Falcon didn't cut it for me either. As a lifelong fan of Steve Rogers being the man behind the mask, it has been difficult to see anyone else in that role. Nick Spencer's work on Captain America: Sam Wilson has been okay so far, but nothing spectacular until the last two issues.

Note: This comic book was first released digitally on February 3, 2016 and was just released in physical print this past Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

Within the media of storytelling, there are some stories that are difficult to make of. Ones that on the surface may appear to be one thing but when truly analyzed reveal to be something ultimately different. That's of course what dawned the phrase, "never judge a book by its cover", and the X-Men:Worst X-Man Ever mini-series embraces that.

Writer Mark Millar and artist Frank Quitely return to their prequel series of "Jupiter's Circle" with Jupiter's Legacy 2 #1. In the previous volume, a group of bratty offspring of superheroes decided that they didn't want to be like their parents. Instead of using their abilities as a force for good, they went another direction to seek their hunger for fame and fortune. What ensued was a staged coup that led to an overthrow and murder of the old guard. Taking control of America and imposing their ideas amongst their subjects to force their agendas and feed their egos.
