"Uncanny X-Men" provides a thirty-plus page story to cap off the Bendis X-Men run with issue number 600. The comic also contains a black and white story about Iceman by Mary Jo Duffy and George Perez to round out the read. I can't recommend this comic book at six bucks. The comic doesn't provide much of anything except a few interesting moments here and there. For the most part, nothing happens. I'm not sure what kind of "ending" I was expecting, but for the amount of delays this book saw I think I was expecting something bigger than what is in here. Perhaps fans of the Bendis run will enjoy this comic book, but I would save your six dollars anyway.

Klaus #1Klaus #1 of 6
Boom! Studios
Morrison & Mora

"Klaus" launches the six-issue mini-series that is the secret origin of Santa Claus as told by Grant Morrison. The first issue is fairly straight-forward as we get introduced to the main character, the problem he is faced with and throws in a great cliffhanger. This comic is a good read and a great start to this series.

Drax #1Drax #1
Marvel Comics
CM Punk, Bunn, Hepburn & Milla

"Drax" launches with a fun read. The comic is basically about Drax's quest to find and kill Thanos, the villain that destroyed Drax's life by killing his family. The comic has some laughs and manages to provide a solid foundation for the character, while still moving the plot along. This is a solid read and a good start to the series.

Extraordinary X-Men #1Extraordinary X-Men #1
Marvel Comics
Lemire, Ramos, Olazaba & Delgado

"Extraordinary X-Men" launches the next big X-Men book by rounding up some of the usual suspects for the team. The comic is an average read. If you've read an X-Men book that sort of starts out a team then this is all very familiar. At five dollars, for thirty pages, I don't recommend picking this up. Perhaps the series will pick up in the coming issues, but as a first issue this was a tame read.

Black Magick #1Black Magick #1
Image Comics
Rucka & Scott

"Black Magick" is a gorgeous comic book with a fairly tense opening issue. The comic introduces the lead character as someone that deals in Magick and then puts her into a situation that fuses her day job as a detective with her family background. The book is a dense read with a lot of back matter to enhance the story. Overall, this is a strong read in what looks to be a promising series. I highly recommend this comic.

Star Wars Chewbacca #2Star Wars: Chewbacca #2
Marvel Comics
Duggan & Noto

The Chewbacca mini-series continues to be an extremely frustrating read. This issue contains some nice action and good artwork but leaves too many plot questions and strange flow problems that completely detract from the read. The comic tries to show Chewbacca through a child's eyes, but fails to capture that wonder or charm. The darkness of the story line simply overpowers whatever light-heartedness this comic is trying to convey. I found this to be a below average read.

Ringside #1Ringside #1
Image Comics
Keatinge & Barber
Scheduled for release 11/25

"Ringside" is a noir, drama that just so happens to take place in the world of wrestling. The initial issue takes the lead character, Dan aka the Minotaur, and bounces him from his last gig and into the cruel world of reality. The comic captures the real-life drama of the characters and avoids becoming simply a wrestling comic with some characters that have lives outside of the ring. The comic book plunges into a violent mystery by the issue's end, which should bring the reader back for more. I enjoyed this comic book and definitely recommend giving it a read. Especially if you like criminal dramas or are interested in seedy underworlds (not just of wrestling) where characters all seem to have an agenda. This is a great read.

Vertigo (DC) Comics
Simone & Davis-Hunt

Gail Simone makes her Vertigo debut with a good first issue, in what looks to be a series to watch. The concept of the book is a mix between an oppressive cult and the super-natural, as the main character investigates how a book may have played a role in the death of her fiancé. The comic provides stellar art and solid character work, but doesn't shy away from some perplexing ideas and disturbing images. This is a comic book to check out.
