THE GODDAMNED #2The Goddamned #2
Image Comics
Aaron, Guera & Brusco

"The Goddamned" is a tough read. You need to embrace violence and you also need to have some understanding of the Bible to get the full picture. The issue is a solid read that has some character development and has a tiny bit of plot movement while filling the panels with brutal and bloody violence. It's a good read if you like your comics to be dirty.

STAR WARS KANAN #9Star Wars: Kanan #9
Marvel Comics
Weisman, Larraz & Curiel

For those that long for Clone Wars comic books then this is the issue for you. This issue puts Kanan on his first mission with his master, Depa, and their clone battalion. It's a solid read that sets up the plot and puts the group in danger and then gives a nice cliffhanger for the next issue. I enjoyed this issue and any reader looking for some comics that explore the Jedi prior to their collapse then this will be a good pickup.

STAR WARS DARTH VADER ANNUAL #1Star Wars: Darth Vader Annual #1
Marvel Comics
Gillen, Yu & Keith

In the week that the new movie hits theaters Marvel offers up a Darth Vader one-shot in the form of a $5 annual. The comic doesn't bring anything new to the character. Instead, it simply gives more of Vader exerting his power. The artwork has its highs and lows as well. Package it all up and you have a decent read that isn't particularly unique or memorable. You can probably find better ways to spend your money, but if you pick this up you probably will be entertained.

The Walking Dead #149The Walking Dead #149
Image Comics
Kirkman, Adlard, Gaudiano & Rathburn

"The Walking Dead" brings Negan back into the fold with the current issue. On the one hand you can make the case that he's a fan favorite and his absence has been a cloud over the series for over a year. The cynic might say that he's brought back into the forefront simply because the television show has cast the character and started bringing the character and his gang into the plots. The issue is a good read because of Negan but has some subpar subplots that don't add much to the comic. Generally, this is an average issue.

Geek Goggle Reviews: BATMAN #47

Batman #47Batman #47
DC Comics
Snyder, Capullo, Miki & Plascencia

The latest issue of Batman continues the plot of Gordon against Bloom and Bruce Wayne against his memory subplot. The comic is an okay read but the comic and the arc just doesn't pack any kind of punch that the previous arcs have had under Snyder and Capullo. The artwork is still extremely stellar but it isn't enough to boost the overall read. I recommend checking this out but you probably won't be as "wowed" as so many previous issues in the series.

THE VIOLENT #1The Violent #1
Image Comics
Brisson, Gorham & Garland

"The Violent" is a punch in the gut kind of comic book. The comic is about a family that is struggling to get by in the upside-down economy in Vancouver. The story is about a husband and wife that are battling money issues, drug addiction issues, jail issues and struggling in their own relationship with each other. The comic is a powerful read and looks like it has some strong potential to be a smash hit. I recommend checking this out.

Geek Goggle Reviews: STAR WARS ANNUAL #1

STAR WARS ANNUAL #1Star Wars Annual #1
Marvel Comics
Gillen, Unzueta & Mounts

The first "Star Wars" annual from the new wave of Star Wars comics at Marvel is a one-shot spy mission. The comic mostly uses new characters that don't have any immediate ties to the primary characters from the original trilogy. This doesn't make the book less important, but instead it makes it easier to kill off the characters and therefore has the potential to tell a more complete story. Instead this comic leaves the reader hanging at the end of a comic book that is full of plot holes and strange character decisions. I found this to be a very awkward read. I think you can find better ways to spend five bucks.

The Totally Awesome Hulk #1The Totally Awesome Hulk #1
Marvel Comics
Pak, Cho & Oback

Amadeus Cho takes his turn as the Hulk in this first issue by the character's co-creator, Greg Pak. The comic clocks in at a five-dollar cover price for thirty pages of story. The comic is mostly action centric, but there is some character development here and there. This is a very average read for your money. If you are fan of Amadeus Cho then you might be in for a jolt in terms of his depiction.
