OBI-WAN AND ANAKIN #1Star Wars: Obi-Wan & Anakin
Marvel Comics
Soule, Checchetto & Mossa

"Obi-Wan & Anakin" launches a mini-series that focuses on the time period about five years after "Phantom Menace" and five years before "Attack of the Clones." The comic shows good command of the relationship that the pair seem likely to have during this time period. The comic also has very good artwork covering a time where there aren't actors to reference how they would appear. However, the comic barely grazes a plot as the comic book is mostly setup. This is an okay start to the mini-series.

Geek Goggle Reviews: STAR WARS #14/STAR WARS DARTH VADER #15

Star Wars: Darth Vader #15 (Vader Down Part 6 of 6)
Marvel Comics
Gillen, Larroca & Delgado
Aaron, Deodato & Martin

"Vader Down" wraps up with both "Star Wars" and "Darth Vader" issues shipping this week. The crossover is entertaining. The classic characters all get some individual action and are set against various foes in one-on-one action. These two issues suffer from a general gloss over of the details though. Even items mentioned within the rundown in the front, and appear to be vital, receive not so much as a panel in either issue. These are the kinds of comics that you sit back and turn off your brain and enjoy for the action and surprises. If you are looking for something a little deeper then these issues will disappoint you.

Geek Goggle Reviews: CONAN THE AVENGER #21

CONAN THE AVENGER #21Conan The Avenger #21
Dark Horse Comics
Van Lente, Luis, Owens & Atiyeh

This issue of Conan is the second part of the story called, "A Witch Shall Be Born." However, this issue is very self-contained. Queen Taramis and Salome are nowhere to be found. Instead this issue is entirely about the crucifixion of Conan. Its brutal but beautifully written. It's gritty but it shows a weakness in the character that previously didn't really exist. This visuals bring these tough scenes to life in an inspired way. This reads great as a one-shot and I highly recommend checking this out.

Geek Goggle Reviews: STAR WARS CHEWBACCA #5

STAR WARS CHEWBACCA #5Star Wars: Chewbacca #5 of 5
Marvel Comics
Duggan & Noto

The Chewbacca mini-series wraps up with a satisfactory read that hit the right notes to complete the expected course for the mini-series. Ultimately the issue is fairly predictable and doesn't provide much of a punch to end the mini-series on a high note. When more than half of the comic feels like it's an epilogue then you probably had a mini-series that was stretched too long. The comic has some strong art to help the fairly tame story along the way. This is an average comic.

STAR WARS DARTH VADER #14Star Wars: Darth Vader #14
Marvel Comics
Gillen, Larroca & Delgado

"Vader Down" reaches the fourth chapter of six in this issue of "Darth Vader." Crossovers have a tendency to stretch things out a few issues too many and this is one of those issues that probably could have been condensed to a few pages and combined with another issue. It's not that the read isn't entertaining, but when you dissect what happens in the comic and how many pages each sequence takes you realize not much really happens. It's a good crossover, but this is an average issue among them.

Dark Knight III The Master Race #2Dark Knight III #2
DC Comics
Miller, Azzarello, Kubert, Janson & Anderson

"DK III: The Master Race" moves to the second issue with more of a scattered approach to the story as it loops in other character arcs. The read is entertaining and answers a lot of the questions about this series that the first issue presented. The comic's presentation is fantastic and helps to justify the six-dollar cover charge. Overall, this is a good comic to check out as it appeals to Batman fans in general, fans of the original Dark Knight series or fans of broken down visions of the future.

SUPERMAN AMERICAN ALIEN #2Superman: American Alien #2 of 7
DC Comics
Landis & Edwards

The second issue of "Superman: American Alien" may be better than the first, which had already set a high standard. This is a harsher look at Clark Kent's years growing up in Smallville than you might normally find. While still developing his powers he finds himself breaking out of his comfort zone when dealing with criminals. This issue also focuses on his relationships with his friends rather than honing in on his interaction with his parents. The artwork is good in this darker issue. I enjoyed the different look at Clark Kent's childhood and recommend checking it out.
