Old Man Logan #1
Marvel Comics
Lemire, Sorrentino & Maiolo

"Old Man Logan" launches with a solid first issue that establishes the direction of the series with direct clarity. This is a revenge story. Using the old time travel concept where characters try to prevent a bad outcome in the future by dealing with things in the past. However, Logan is simply looking to take out characters that wrong him in the future. The artwork picks up as the issue moves along but really struggles in the opening pages. I enjoyed this first issue.

Geek Goggle Reviews: BATMAN #48

Batman #48
DC Comics
Snyder, Capullo, Miki & Plascencia

This issue of "Batman" begins the process of knocking Jim Gordon out of the Bat suit and putting Bruce Wayne back into the suit. The comic is constructed superbly and reads extremely well because of it. The book struggles to make the villain seem important because the means to get Wayne back into the suit really is a foregone conclusion. In short, the threat lacks drama. The comic is a good read and has some fantastic artwork. This is worth checking out.

Star Wars #15
Marvel Comics
Aaron & Mayhew

"Star Wars" comes out of the "Vader Down" crossover with an issue focusing on the time period between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope" when Obi-Wan is charged with watching over young Luke. The comic is okay but doesn't really break any new ground. Basically, if you've read any comics or novels or short stories based on this time period then you've read this before. The artwork is extremely beautiful but does struggle capturing the look of the characters as seen in the original Star Wars film. This is a decent read.

Silver Surfer #1
Marvel Comics
Slott, Allred & Allred

"Silver Surfer" launches with a fun issue that establishes the characters and sets up a longer story arc, while telling a self-contained one-shot. Generally, the comic is a lighthearted read but I'm not sure it qualifies as an all ages book. The artwork is very detailed and extraordinarily colored, which really brings the book to another level of life. Overall, this is a good read even though it appears to be a simple read.

Devolution #1
Remender, Wayshak & Boyd

"Devolution" is the latest launch from Rick Remender that delves into the doomed future of mankind. Remender has a knack for writing a great first issue to unveil his high concept and this issue is no exception. Basically, the idea is that a government created a weapon that would reduce the part of the human brain that believes in God(s). This has a bad effect and the population de-evolves, along with plants and animals. Chaos ensues. The comic is a very strong first issue and is a series to keep an eye on.

The Walking Dead #150The Walking Dead #150
Image Comics
Kirkman, Adlard, Gaudiano & Rathburn

The big anniversary issue of "The Walking Dead" reads a lot like a regular issue. Sure, the comic has a bunch of variants, included one by the book's co-creator and plaintiff in a lawsuit involving the Walking Dead show, Tony Moore. It also clocks in at thirty pages for the regular price. As for the story, its a fairly ordinary one with one sequence of some very graphic panels. This is a good comic book with a shift in the direction and stance Rick has taken with his people to this point. Overall, this is a good read.

Geek Goggle Reviews: STAR WARS OBI-WAN AND ANAKIN #1

OBI-WAN AND ANAKIN #1Star Wars: Obi-Wan & Anakin
Marvel Comics
Soule, Checchetto & Mossa

"Obi-Wan & Anakin" launches a mini-series that focuses on the time period about five years after "Phantom Menace" and five years before "Attack of the Clones." The comic shows good command of the relationship that the pair seem likely to have during this time period. The comic also has very good artwork covering a time where there aren't actors to reference how they would appear. However, the comic barely grazes a plot as the comic book is mostly setup. This is an okay start to the mini-series.

Geek Goggle Reviews: STAR WARS #14/STAR WARS DARTH VADER #15

STAR WARS #14Star Wars #14 (Vader Down Part 5 of 6)
Star Wars: Darth Vader #15 (Vader Down Part 6 of 6)
Marvel Comics
Gillen, Larroca & Delgado
Aaron, Deodato & Martin

"Vader Down" wraps up with both "Star Wars" and "Darth Vader" issues shipping this week. The crossover is entertaining. The classic characters all get some individual action and are set against various foes in one-on-one action. These two issues suffer from a general gloss over of the details though. Even items mentioned within the rundown in the front, and appear to be vital, receive not so much as a panel in either issue. These are the kinds of comics that you sit back and turn off your brain and enjoy for the action and surprises. If you are looking for something a little deeper then these issues will disappoint you.
