X-Men Legacy #220
Marvel Comics
Carey, Eaton & Hennessy
Finally Xavier gets around to dealing with Rogue. As Xavier makes his rounds to all the key characters in his life he has touched on Rogue here and there, but in this issue he finally decides to do something about her. The issue is mostly just setting the pieces on the board and generating some interesting conflicts for the next issue. It’s a good issue but the confrontations are light which made the issue not quite as good as previous issues in the series.

I can’t help myself – I love this title. I know every issue is someone else exploring Xavier’s brain or Xavier exploring their brain. Sure every issue has a ton of flashbacks, but I love the story, concept and execution. This is the perfect way to take an old character and make him fresh again. It exposes the audience of today to all the things this character has done to make him popular or unpopular. It also helps to satisfy the older reader by reinventing what this character means to others and breaks him down to his core beliefs. I like this idea and it follows along with favorite kind of character story: the descent of man.

Magneto returns and so does Xavier. This issue lacks action, but it gives some excellent insight into how both of them view the other and their ideals. It’s nice to see Magneto and Xavier in the same comic together. I just wonder where all of this is really going. Hopefully, the characters will be relevant again in the overall X scheme.
