Walking Dead has a pattern and it has been this way for quite some time. The characters find a level of comfort before they get blindsided with confrontation and death. Then the book picks up the pieces and slowly builds to the next crisis. This issue does something we have not seen within that cycle before because for once, the main group, are the ones that appear to be causing the trouble. That's making a lot of assumptions in the early stages of the arc, but it at least provides the general setup for this particular issue and storyline. It's a very good issue because Kirkman toys with the reader with this reversal concept, all the while still managing to show the reader that all is not what it appears to be stacked up to be. It's as solid a read as ever and provides an excellent jump-on point for a newer reader.

The Walking Dead rolls on with another issue that deals with some fallout of the previous issue while it builds to something much bigger on the horizon. Basically, we find out this new community is involved with the zombie-land version of the mafia and Rick aims to set things right. The book is a terrific book because it lets you into the mind of Rick and what he thinks and how he processes events that are unfolding. Month in and month out this is the best book on the stands.

Rick and friends show up at the new civilization with their new found savior, Jesus. As you may guess, the issue is high on tension. Trust is thin and visions of the Governor cutting off Rick's hand shortly after meeting him dance through long-time reader's heads. On the other hand, the nice and calm meeting of Douglas, the last community leader that Rick met, makes the reader unsure of what is going to happen next. And that is the beauty of this book: you never know what's coming. This issue is slow and has some fairly standard drama surrounding trust until the very end when Kirkman pulls the rug out from under the readers. This is a good read.
