The fourth issue of this series ties into Blackest Night. The comic focuses on Superboy Prime and relies heavily on satire. The issue manages to raise a smile or two but adds little to the Blackest Night mosaic and doesn't establish what this title is really about. The issue also contains a backup about the Legion of Super-Heroes that seems to provide a story with a theme but does little to clue the unengaged reader about the characters involved making it rather hollow. I'm not sure this issue provides much to anyone other than the hardcore fan.

The judge in the recent Superman court ruling has ordered all parties to attempt to negotiate a settlement:

Accordingly, the Court hereby ORDERS the parties to devote the next sixty (60) days to engaging in a good faith effort to settle their dispute in the Superman and Superboy litigation before the JAMS Mediator. At the conclusion of this period, on June 1, 2008, the parties are to file a joint report, outlining the efforts that they have taken in furtherance of settlement and the results of those efforts.

Per Michael Grabois, the prior ruling giving the Siegel family rights to the Superboy character will be reconsidered in the courts. Each side has 30 days to submit revised information.

The bottom line: DC successfully appealed the 2006 ruling, which said that the Siegels had successfully regained the rights to Superboy. The judge ruled that the 2006 case did not adequately interpret what a 1948 court said, and he needs to see more supporting documentation from both sides as to whether Superboy as published in "More Fun Comics" #101 was derivative of Superman. What it's going to boil down to is this: was there anything copyrightable in Siegel's original plans for Superboy, or was it basically derivative of Superman? They've got 30 days from July 27 to present their case, making the due date August 26.
