(BALTIMORE, MD) — (January 15, 2009) — Marvel Comics’ Secret Invasion #8 was the best-selling comic book title based on total unit sales to comic book specialty shops for December 2008, according to Diamond Comic Distributors.
The conclusion to Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Yu’s epic limited series event, Secret Invasion #8 joins other series issues at the top of the sales charts, marking an unprecedented run for the title.
Marvel is pleased to announce that Secret Invasion: War of Kings has sold out at Diamond (though copies may be available at the retail level) and will return with Secret Invasion: War of Kings Second Printing Variant. From the fan favorite creative team of writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning (better known as DnA) and artist Paul Pelletier, this is the one-shot kicking off the biggest cosmic super hero event of the century! In the aftermath of Secret Invasion, the Inhumans must return to the Kree world—but first it’s time to exact revenge on the remaining Skrulls! Meanwhile, how will Vulcan and his Shi’Ar Empire respond? This new printing features Pelletier’s powerful interior art on a new cover!
Total sales remained "strong" and the graphic-novel category grew by 5%, says Steve Geppi, CEO of Diamond Comics Distributors, which services more than 4,000 comic-book stores nationwide.
"We remain optimistic about the comic-book industry heading into 2009," he says.

The biggest new title of the month was ASTONISHING X-MEN: GHOST BOXES, and there’s also the “Original Sin” crossover between X-MEN: LEGACY and WOLVERINE: ORIGINS. And, er, that’s pretty much it - there are some new miniseries further down the charts, but otherwise, it’s a month of business as usual.

The invasion is over and the good guys won! Well, the war is over with the aliens, so now the war can begin anew among the heroes. The issue wraps up the war with an artistic display that you want from a full universe worth of heroes. There isn’t too much drama or crazy twists with the Skrulls which was a little disappointing, but there was an odd twist at the end. I liked the arc as a whole, but found the ending to be a little lacking.
The New York Times has revealed the ending of the Secret Invasion miniseries, the final issue of which will be released tomorrow. Do not read any further if you do not want the ending to be spoiled!
