Since it was established in 2004, the Joe Shuster Award program has been Canada’s national awards program for recognizing the outstanding achievements of Canadian comic book creators, publishers and retailers. The awards are named after pioneering Toronto-born artist Joe Shuster who, along with writer Jerry Siegel, created the iconic super-powered hero, Superman.

Media Release -- July 1, 2009 – SAN DIEGO, CA – LAST SON, the new independent documentary film about Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, will screen at the 2009 Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival on Saturday, July 25 from 7:35-8:50 p.m. in Room 26AB.
Last Son is the highly anticipated, unauthorized documentary film about Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the two creators of Superman. Painstakingly researched for five years, Last Son throws out all the boring old mistruths and oversimplified stories in favor of a sharp, oftentimes shocking new take on how The Man of Steel was created during hard times and dark days in Depression-era Cleveland.

Media Release -- CLEVELAND (June 30, 2009)—Next weekend Cleveland welcomes the Superman-themed Screaming Tiki Cleveland Super-Con event, taking place here July 10-12, held in conjunction with the fifth annual Ingenuity Festival Cleveland. This is the first major comic book show in Cleveland since 1991.
Well-known actors, writers and artists will headline the convention, and a special event will honor the memory of Superman's creators, Cleveland natives Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the two Glenville teenagers who created Superman in the mid 1930s.

Media Release -- The Comics For Kids Award / Prix de Bandes Dessinées pour Enfants recognizes creators who have produced works which capture the attention and fascination of young readers, and help to create a passion for life-long reading. Works considered for this award are comic books and graphic novels by Canadian creators that are targeted at readers 14 and under.

6/15/2008 - Winners of the 2008 Joe Shuster Awards were announced at a public ceremony on June 14th in Toronto with Master of Ceremonies Rick Green (Prisoners of Gravity, The Frantics). The awards were the final event at the Sequential Art Symposium held in the auditorium of the Toronto Public Library’s Lillian H. Smith branch on College Street.
