GI Joe Origins #3
IDW Comics
Hama & Hawthorne
Origins just picked up a whole lot of steam as the Joe team charges into what seems to be their first confrontation. The issue is heavy on fast dialogue and plot growth, but is light on the action. This issue from first glance appears to just be positioning characters for the bigger battle but it is doing more than that in the storytelling. Through the dialogue we do learn a lot about the core characters. The villain is still left largely underdeveloped but I’m not sure he even matters for this series. This was a fun read even after multiple sittings.

GI Joe Origins #2
IDW Comics
Hama & Hawthorne
Origins takes this issue a little bit slower than the opening issue. Snake Eyes lays in bed while Duke and Scarlett talk to Hawk and try to figure out what their next step is. The issue really stays centered on Snake Eyes with a little bit of an introduction of Roadblock now called Heavy Duty. I think the issue is an okay issue but it certainly has room for improvement. I would think the long time Joe fans would like this but I’m not so sure about the newer readers.

GI Joe #3
IDW Comics
Dixon & Atkins
Action. This issue has lots and lots of action. The GI Joe headquarters has been infiltrated by robot bugs that stowed away on the confiscated material the Joes picked up in previous issues. This issue almost exclusively deals with this hostile threat. It’s a fun issue but some of the other strands from previous issues really weren’t revisited which was a disappointment. Also, I never really got the sense that the Joes were in trouble because they were fighting robots after all. This was a fun issue and the artwork made sure to keep your eyes wide-awake with some level of awe.
