July 23rd, 2008, LOS ANGELES – Peter Berg, fresh off his blockbuster hit, Hancock, is attached to produce and develop to direct Hercules: The Thracian Wars, based on the Radical Publishing 5 issue miniseries of the same title, written by Steve Moore. Hercules will be a co-production of Spyglass Entertainment, Berg's Film 44 and Radical Pictures. Ryan Condal, recently hired to adapt Warren Ellis' graphic novel titled Ocean for Nick Wechsler and Hollywood Gang Productions, will write the script with the film to be co-financed by Spyglass and Universal. Spyglass' Jonathan Glickman, Roger Birnbaum and Gary Barber will produce with Berg and his Film 44 partner Sarah Aubrey, with Barry Levine producing for Radical. Jesse Berger will exec produce. Unfortunately for this one it starts off on a couple of bad feet. It’s a fairly tame story that illustrates more about how everyone screws over the Hulk and shows how the Herc-ster isn’t really a pure good guy. I’m not sure we learned anything new about either character in this story. Perhaps the hope is if someone is reading one title and not the other they might get some cross pollination. As you can I’m struggle with why this exists.
