X-Men Original Sin #1
Marvel Comics
Way, Carey, Deodato & Eaton

The opening of the crossover between X-Men Legacy and Wolverine Origins has an interesting set up. The comic is split between both title’s creative teams into two chapters. The story is seamless in its hand off between teams. The comic deals with reestablishing Wolverine and Xavier’s relationship and bringing Wolverine’s son, Daken, into the picture for those who might not know him. It’s a good story but it doesn’t feel terribly essential for this crossover.

X-Men Magneto Testament #2 of 5
Marvel Comics
Pak, Di Giandomenico & Hollingsworth

This is a story that is not a superhero tale. It’s not an origins story. It’s not anything like any other X-Men story I’ve ever read. It’s a historical account of how Nazi Germany turned its own citizens into the enemy. It took everything they had, beating them along the way, before running them out of their homes and eventually taking their lives. It follows one family in particular. A member of that family happens to become Magneto. Without that last sentence, this comic has nothing to do with the X-Men. It’s an excellent story documenting a horrifying and dark spot on mankind’s history. It’s a powerful story.

Transformers Spotlight Sideswipe
IDW Comics
Furman & Su

The Revelations arc wraps up with this issue and with it the 40+ issue arc that has been running for a couple of years now. There was a ton to wrap up and this issue does an awfully good job of undertaking that task. The comic is most satisfying in two key areas: the use of Optimus Prime and the use of the title character. The comic misses in that it doesn’t explore some of the plot threads for more than a few panels due to the lack of space. I wish this comic could have been extra sized.

Flash Gordon #2
Ardden Comics
Deneen & Green

The first issue caught my interest. The second issue has me hooked. The strength of reviving this franchise is in its characters and their quick development. This comic has a good story that moves quickly, but the characters in it make their mark immediately and have a uniqueness to them that helps make them stand out. The artwork is detailed in a cartoon like manner that seems to fit this fantasy story very well. This series is shaping up to be a breath of fresh air and we are only two issues into it!

Cable #7
Marvel Comics
Swierczynski & Olivetti

Cable finds a peaceful spot to live while Bishop is an idiot and gets captured in the present. This issue finally puts an end to the cat and mouse game of Cable running from Bishop and expands the cast of characters to help provide a more interesting story. The art is a better fit here then in the burned out building setting of the first six issues. This issue is a great opening to a new arc.
