It’s time for a true FoL first. Every year, Friends of Lulu, the national, non-profit organization, which has brought more women and girls into comic books for close to 15 years, recognizes several women who have made notable contributions in the ever-expanding comics industry. As yet another extremely successful year for women in comics continues, FoL is proud to keep the momentum going by bringing the Lulu Awards, usually presented in a West Coast event, to New York City for the first time. The 2008 Friends of Lulu award nominees have been selected by the comic-reading public, and the winners voted on by members of Friends of Lulu.
April 11th, 2008 MANHATTAN: As graphic novels continue to increase the comics industry's success, the New York chapters of both the Women's National Book Association and Friends of Lulu present a multifaceted panel called Speaking Graphically: Graphic Narratives in the Publishing Marketplace.

Friends of Lulu is moving the organization’s Lulu Awards event from the San Diego Comic-Con to the popular MoCCA Art Festival (a.k.a. Artfest) this year!
The annual Lulu Awards, which recognize the efforts women make in comics, will be held at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in Manhattan on Saturday, June 7 at 8:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served, and there will be a suggested donation of $7.00 at the door.
