The sequel to the extremely well done and successful three issue mini series, Existence 2.0, debuts with an awful lot of question marks. After all, the first series concluding with its most interesting character, Sylvester, getting trapped in a female assassin's body with his eight year old daughter's mind occupying the same body onto of his brain. This essentially means the little girl controls the assassin's body with her father's mind trapped somewhere inside the same body. Can the series survive without its primary character? Another question coming in to the story is what could possibly be done to come close to the cliffhanger, surprise filled, original series? Well, this issue has some answers to these questions as it starts off the follow up mini series with shift in gears to make this series completely different from the first one.

The first mini series in the Existence line ends with a couple of plot twists and a bit of a cliffhanger. We don't have all-out bloodbath of a finish I was expecting but many of the plot threads do get resolved with some swift retribution, occasionally violent. It's a great series and this issue just puts it all together very nicely.

The plot thickens as someone special from Marko's past comes forward and Marko/Sylvester starts telling more people what has happened to him but he gets a big surprise about his identity switch. This comic delivers a terrific plot twist, a bunch of brutality and a few humorous moments. The artwork again pulls the reader into the story in the same vein of Criminal. It's a fantastic second issue to this mini series.
Media Release -- After EXISTENCE 2.0's first issue faced a complete distribution-level sell out Image Comics, writer Nick Spencer and illustrator Ronald Salas bring their noir crime thriller online thanks to a partnership with Comic Book Resources.
"EXISTENCE 2.0 is a very different book, combining crime noir with hard edge science fiction that's an absolute must read for any fan of TRANSMETROPOLITAN and CRIMINAL," Image Comics Partner Jim Valentino said. "When the news of the sell out came in we knew we had to get the book in front of as many eyes as possible. Luckily the people at Comic Book Resources were very enthusiastic and gave our first issue a home."

Every once in a while I receive something to review and I’ve never heard of it. Many times these comics are the best reads. Perhaps it is because I have no expectations. Or perhaps some of the best material is just done outside of the big two publishers and doesn’t have the advertising and loud backing. Whatever the case may be this comic book is outstanding. It’s a crime drama with a twist of science fiction done in some of the traditional pulp manner that the likes of Criminal has carried on with today. It has some gore, some emotion, some humor and a nice gimmick to keep you on your feet. This is a comic worth seeking out.
Media Release -- This July writer Nick Spencer and illustrator Ronald Salas give one man the chance to start life anew after dying in the science fiction romp, EXISTENCE 2.0.
