Marvel Comics
Slott, Allred & Allred

The latest launch of Silver Surfer is a simple setup story that attempts to tie Silver Surfer to Earth, while keeping him up in the cosmos where there's more room for him to use his powers. The issue is a good read but doesn't do anything too epic. Part of the appeal of this issue is the zany aspect of the story and the detailed artwork. This is worth taking a look at.

IDW Comics
Hama & Gallant

This is a big anniversary issue. 200 issues spread over thirty years and two publishers brings a celebratory-like comic that is very fitting for the long view of this series. Hama's written all the issues and his latest run has been forty-five issues with IDW where S L Gallant's art has been in most of them. This comic comes in at six bucks giving about thirty pages of story and a lot of artwork in the back along with an interview with Gallant. I believe this to be an over-priced comic and I'm not sure the content is going to grab a bunch of new readers but time will tell. If you like GI Joe from the 1980s then this is the issue to pick up.

The tenth part of "All Out War" is a fast moving read. The action is fairly limited considering where things left off last issue and the book sort moves to the next phase with little hype. It's a good issue for a variety of reasons but isn't perfect because it just feels like it's a roadblock to what comes next rather than an issue with its own drama and tale to be told. If anything, the book is always surprising and there are one or two of those in here. This is recommending reading.

The second part of the second half of this mini-series is another excellent issue. The comic has surprises, some background on the lead character and a tremendous set of artwork. The comic book doesn't feel like a part two, let alone a part seven. It feels like a satisfactory read and that is quite an accomplishment. This is definitely recommended reading.
