The Cartoon Art Museum proudly presents original works of art from the feature film CORALINE, produced by LAIKA, the Portland-based animation studio owned by Nike co-founder and Chairman Philip H. Knight, and released by Focus Features on February 6, 2009. The exhibition features drawings, storyboards, puppets, sets, costumes and more from this groundbreaking movie, the first ever stop-motion animated film to be shot in 3D. In stop-motion animation, everything seen on screen actually exists in the real world, as opposed to computer-generated animation. This exhibit includes almost 80 pieces from the extraordinary world of Coraline, created by a team of over 300 artists bringing to life the vision of the world’s foremost stop-motion animation director, Henry Selick.

Green Lantern #36
DC Comics
Johns, Reis & Albert

Rage of the Red Lanterns spills into Green Lantern proper with this installment and doesn’t skip a beat from the Final Crisis one shot. In fact, I kind of think this issue is better than the Final Crisis one shot because it introduces yet another color and a cast along with it. It’s a terrific issue and it looks like we will need a scorecard soon to keep track of all of the colors and those who represent them.

Nick Fury has assembled the next generation of Marvel super heroes—the sons and daughters of super villains—to fight the new order that Dark Reign has brought to the Marvel Universe! Secret Warriors #1, written by award winning scribes Brian Michael Bendis & red-hot Jonathan Hickman and featuring the stunning art of Marvel Young Gun artist Stefano Caselli, presents Fury’s battle to not only train the next generation of heroes—but to also defeat what may be the greatest threat he’s ever faced! You’ve seen the Warriors come together in the pages of Mighty Avengers and you’ve seen them push back the Skrull armada Secret Invasion—but what could rock their world even more? If that’s not enough, in addition to the eye-popping cover by Jimmy Cheung, Secret Warriors #1 also features the parents of these heroes on a variant cover by a top secret artist!

Star Wars Legacy #31
Dark Horse Comics
Ostrander, Duursema & Parsons

Vector wraps up, but so does a major story in this title. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Vector crossover didn’t slow this title’s momentum down at all. In fact, it seems that Vector has helped to push across a new status quo in this title. I was shocked at the ending here. Vector may have been a hit or miss crossover, but this arc, in this title, may have been the best for this entire series.
